9.75 inches and yes, it will handle a regular steak with ease. Just don’t try to do a tomahawk in it! Lol I have the rounds and the ovals, I can’t tell you whether one is better than another. But I enjoy them both.
I own both. The braiser in the same size is wider and shallower. Both can be used for a variety of braised one-pot dishes. The sauteuse is a little deeper and may offer a bit more flexibility for dishes with more liquid like stews or sauces. I enjoy them both. I use the braiser when I use less liquid and want the steam to infuse the meat and vegetables.

BEST ANSWER:Yes! I purchased this sauteuse especially for baking bread, and I use it multiple time a week for that. However, once I saw how very lovely it was, I began using it for an abundance of other dishes as well.

I don’t see why not . Other Le Creuset cast irons have been used to make bread . The sauteuse has a slight curve bottom than regular Dutch ovens . If this is your first purchase of a cast iron , make sure you read the care and cleaning part . They are not typical cookware. If taken care of will last a very long time .
The 3.5 qt is manageable for me. I also own a 7.0 qt and often have to have my husband move it for me. The 3.5 is deep enough and light enough for me to maneuver on my own.
BEST ANSWER:If it is the sand color interior, it is enamel over cast iron. I have grill pans that are black interior, they are not enamel bit seasoned cast iron, like Lodge seasoned cast iron pans. I am not sure about the skillets.

It is cast iron that is enameled on both the outside and inside. The inside is a sand colored enamel. Their grill and frypans are enameled on the inside also, with a matte black enamel.
BEST ANSWER:Sauteuse is a versatile shape and size for searing, braising, roasting and baking that easily goes from stove to oven to table. A braiser is used to sear meat…brown it on a stovetop. Liquid is usually added and then the braiser with the lid on, is transferred to the oven. The meat is then effectively steamed within the braiser pot as the tight-fitting lid prevents and loss of moisture.

I assume so but I have to admit I haven’t put it in the dishwasher. It’s big and would take up a lot is space. It’s so easy to clean that I always do it by hand.
I'm taking Apollonia Poilane's bread making class and she suggests purchasing a 12" cocotte. Since they're all listed by ounce or quart, I have no idea how deep it needs to be or if 12" translates to a standard ounce or quart size. Any suggestions?
BEST ANSWER:If not specified in the class, I would guess standard size would work. I make ciabatta bread in this sauteuse using 360g flour (3 cups) and 1 ½ cups water. There's plenty of room for that size loaf and it could handle more than that. This is my go to for so much more cooking than bread!

Check the "Specs" tab which gives the height and width dimensions along with quart size. The 3.5 qt is about 9.75" wide (usable space). If 12" is the usable space width (without handles) that you're looking for then you may need to look at the 5 or 6.5 qt dutch oven. You want the dough size to match the dutch oven. I have used the 3.5 qt for making a boule of up to 450g of dough.
I would say a 12" cocotte would be a 5.5 quart more or less. My sauteuse oven is 9.5 inches (diameter) with a capacity for 3.5 quarts. The height is very standard.
The only way to clean these pots, they look beautiful when done! We own 10+ LeC’s and all of ours from the ones that 8 to 10 years old to the newer ones look like they perfect! And we cook with them 3 to 4 times a week! Love my Bar keepers!

You might try baking soda and water and soak for a while, then use a plastic or other safe scrubber to remove the stains. Also, you may try the Le Creuset website for other tips. They have a calmer that can be purchased.
I soak my Creuset in hot sudsy (Dawn liquid detergent) water. Then I used a sponge which has one surface that can scrub if it’s needed. I have never had a problem.
BEST ANSWER:Actually, both. You need to make sure you're ordering the one you want. I ordered Sea Salt and it was the signature. My daughter ordered one (blue or teal) and it was a classic.

BEST ANSWER:It’s not difficult to clean, and yes you can make rice and oatmeal in it. But I wouldn’t do more than 2 cups for the sake over overflowing water.
