Could one use a pot like this to cook soup on the stove top, or is it primarily for oven use? I've never had anything like this before--I'd love to be able to make some of my soups in one pot with this and then serve without transferring, but I don't know if the burner heat (gas stove) would damage the base. Thoughts?
BEST ANSWER: The Staub pumpkin is great for stove top, and oven cooking and then taking directly to to table for serving! Your food remains hot through out the entire meal since it is cast iron and holds the heat extremely well. My sweet potato bake with caramelized pecans is going to look fantastic served in my new pumpkin! Buy it! You will be pleased that it is even more beautiful in living color and makes an excellent decoration when not in use!

Is the inside smooth or shaped like the outside?
BEST ANSWER: It is shaped just like the outside including the lid. It doesnt have the typical "dimples" on the inside of the lid that the traditional shaped Staub cocottes have for self basting. It is absolutely darling. Hope this helps.

My Staub pumpkin Cocotte according to the box label is called Cinnamon color not Burnt Orange like the ad. It is VERY dark orange and not what it looks like on the website. Are there two colors and why did I get such a different color from the ad? Not crazy about the color. And I waited to get one in stock. I like everything but the color. sad.
BEST ANSWER: Cinnamon & Burnt Orange are the same color, but you're welcome to return it if you aren't satisfied with the color.

BEST ANSWER: It is a BEAUTIFUL true burnt orange...deeper, less red, less bright, more subdued, browner than true orange. NOT Halloween orange.

Can this product be used on all kinds of heat sources? please tell me which all sources it can be used on. with regards to the smaller Mini Pumpkin Cocotte too .. what all sources can it be used to cook on or are they just used for decorative and serving purposes?

BEST ANSWER: In general Staubs can be used on induction stove tops. I don't think the pumpkin shape would change this. The bottom is completely flat. It really is a beautiful piece. Hope this helps.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, It can be inverted. While it's not a perfect match with the shape, by inverting the lid you will still save a few inches while storing.

This soup pot is simply beautiful, cooks very well, and I bought it for myself as a Fall treat. Really great purchase, but I wish it came with some recipes. Any suggestions?
BEST ANSWER: Sometimes I cook a recipe from scratch in this pan, and other times I just use it to serve and keep a dish warm. It is great for butternut or pumpkin soup, butternut squash risotto, or serving a side dish at Thanksgiving (pureed squash or even your favorite dressing). BEST ANSWER: All Staub enameled cast iron is made in the French Staub foundry. The Staub ceramic pieces are made in China. I have found the ceramic to be very high quality. The cast iron is perfection.

With the lid on, what is the interior height of the 3.5 quart cocotte? For baking my bread recipes, I require a covered interior of a minimum of 5 inches. Thank you for your help.
BEST ANSWER: thanks! it's a little tough to answer, as the lid has high and low spots. the lower wrinkles of the pumpkin on mine are just under 5", and the puffier parts are 5 1/4 to 5 1/2. so it's cutting it close, but the loaf would be beautiful!

My Pumpkin Cocotte has black spots on it in several places. One place has 5 or 6 black spots close together. Is this normal? I know I am a perfectionist, but the spots do bother me.
BEST ANSWER: I bought the pumpkin cocotte for my daughter...she LIVES it and I visited her over Christmas and she was using it for stews and spaghetti sauce...there were no black spots on the cocotte anywhere...the exterior is a unblemished as the day it was purchased...it hold heat and cooks great...so far no spots. I wonder if your cicotte is defective...pursue that. For the price and quality of Staub I would think there should be NO EXTERIOR BLEMISHES develop...good luck!

Some photos show the color as a deep, darker orange, and others show it as leaning heavily toward brown. Which color is it actually?
BEST ANSWER: It is the burnt orange color. The orginal cocotte was not a burnt orange, so it was ligher in shade.

BEST ANSWER: No!!! It is cast iron and the lid handle(stem) is made of brass.

Do these break easily? Are they pretty fragile?
BEST ANSWER: I don't think the pot will break easily, it is very heavy cast iron, i think if you were to drop it on a hard floor it might damage the enamel or break a handle (or break your toe). it is very much like a black iron Dutch oven, bud it has a nicer shape and color, I bought mine for the holidays, but I will use it more, it gives your table a whimsical touch.

Is there a problem with the porcelain chipping?
BEST ANSWER: Theoretically, perhaps. But that has not been our experience. For example, we have used our le Creuset and Chantal cookware for 30+ years. The latter is enamel on steel and the former cast iron - very similar to Staub.
No issues with chipping with either. We purchased the Staub pumpkin cocotte just two years ago, after admiring it for much longer and no, not one issue with chipping. So depending on how rough you are with your cookware, it could happen, eg if you slammed the lid hard at a 45 degree angle just so to the edge of the lower portion, it may chip. But would you do that?
We own a whole bunch of Staub and just love it. And honestly I must admit I purchased the Cocotte because it is gorgeous. High shine unlike our le Creuset. It is gorgeous in the pumpkin color, but love my white one too.

I bought a classic 3.5 staub cocotte As well as the pumpkin one. For the classic one, the inside is very smooth. For the pumpkin one there are very small bumps inside. Is that a defect? Thank you
BEST ANSWER: It is not a defect. Larger bumps on the lides are basting dots (about the size of a child's knuckle). My pumpkin has smaller basting bumps than a regular or cocotte pot due to the curvature of the design.

Is this the same color as the previous years?
BEST ANSWER: I bought this in 2015. It looks the same color but I can't be sure because I can't make a side to side comparison. I love mine. It sits on my stove as a decoration more than I use it. :)

What is the exterior finish on the black one? It appears matte unlike the other two.
BEST ANSWER: It is a matte finish, in fact the official name of the color is "Matte Black". It does have a little bit of a sheen to it, reminds me of "eggshell" paint finish if you are familiar with that.

Does the staub pumpkin cast iron pot contain lead?
BEST ANSWER: Genuine cast iron contains NO lead. If the pot did have any lead, it would completely melt off (burn off) when the molten iron was being cast in manufacturing process.
