I've had a set of these for 15 years and they've never failed. I've had at least a half-dozen others in that span all of which fell apart eventually. These are sturdy, light, and reliable.

Made in USA! Such a great find. These tongs have curved teeth, so they won't drop things like the flat tongs do.

Do these tongs have a lock?
A shopper on Feb 15, 2013
BEST ANSWER: These stainless steel tongs do have a lock.
I don't understand the description of these tongs: "Whether you use the scalloped or the flat gripper end..." The scalloped end is obvious from the photograph, but what is the flat gripper end??? Also, if I am purchasing only ONE size, which should I go with - 9', 12', or 16'? Thank you in advance for any advice.
Caroline R on Nov 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, it's a bit of an odd/inaccurate description---there is no “flat gripper end”---these are regular tongs with scalloped ends that do the “grabbing”. I’ve found the 12” size to be the most useful and versatile in the kitchen. These tongs are nice and lightweight, but still very sturdy/solid. They are easy to maneuver, and the scallops grip things really well. They’ve worked nicely for grilling and cooking (on all-metal pans); as well as for serving salads, meats/cheeses, potluck/buffet items, etc. If you want a really versatile tong, the 12” one is a great choice. (Reminder, these are all-metal, so not for use on non-stick/Teflon cookware---you’ll want tongs with silicone ends for that.) Hope this helps.
What is the grade of the stainless steel?
A shopper on Nov 29, 2015
BEST ANSWER: It just says heavy duty stainless steel, but we store it outside year around (in Sweden) and no sign of rust so far.

Are the tongs light? I am looking for light stainless steel tongs.
Aida G on May 24, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Well, they’re light enough. I have both the cheap light ones and these. These are the well made original construction, I prefer them. If you want some cheap, lighter, thinner guage metal, you can get those at any restaurant supply store. They come in all different lengths. I use both but these are far better
I am looking for tongs that self lock when turned up and self unlock when turned down. Is that how these lock?
A shopper on Jan 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: No, these tongs are locked manually by pushing the locking tab at the top. There are several locking tongs on the market including several on the Sur La Table website. I love the convenience those type of tongs provide.

What gauge (thickness) is the stainless steel for the 16" tongs?
A shopper on Sep 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: I don't know the gauge for these - but they are heavy duty - not tinny and light or cheap. These are made in USA by Edlund and I own 4 of these - and give them as presents all the time - because they are so well made and the only tongs I used. I tossed out all the cheap ones. The tab at the join works so that it has a position to hold the tongs closed or when pushed in - the tongs open for use. This tab is very sturdy and has never broken on any of the tongs I own - and I've owned these now for more than 10 years. I buy these all the time for shower presents along with other kitchen tools that I have found to be worth having.
What is the pin that holds both arms together made of?
A shopper on Nov 4, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The pin on my set looks to me like stainless steel (same as the tongs). The pin itself is surrounded by a flat copper (?) cover.
Why do these tongs have a Prop65 warning? I want to buy tongs made in the USA but I'm worried about what chemical these contain that could cause cancer/reproductive harm.
Allison L on Mar 18, 2021
BEST ANSWER: It is because there is some Nickel in stainless steel. Nickel falls under Prop 65 warnings, however, the warning is more specifically for the occupational hazard of fumes/dust inhalation exposure.
Can this tongs have a hook to hang?
A shopper on Mar 22, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I am editing my answer of 3/22/2019. I used these this evening (again - they are great tongs in my opinion because there is no teflon to degrade under high heat. Just plain old stainless.). While it is true that the hasp is not "designed" to receive a hook, I did note that there is a small (maybe 3/8 " - 1/2" high by 1/4" to 3/8" inch wide) irregularly shaped hole in the hasp that, depending on the size and shape of the "hook" might accomodate same. So this said, it is the case that the tongs were likely not engineered to accomodate a hook. You might must get lucky your "hook" fits with the tongs' hasp.
Long tongs!
My husband wanted long tongs for barbquing. Anyone know if 16” too long?
A shopper on Aug 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: we use these tongs exclusively for the grill and they work well. i wouldn’t go shorter for a grill. even with these you end up with a hot hand sometimes!
Would they be useful for picking up individual olives from an olive jar?
